Gene 5.1 for the most part does not restrict the values of variables in configurations. I can't predict nor prevent all settings that have unfortunate consequences. I will respond to bugs that report acceptance of nonsensical values for some variables, however.

Concurrent Modification Exceptions

Gene is multithreaded, meaning several process run concurrently. This speeds performance but can result in errors that are hard to reproduce reliably, and may not happen very often on one machine bug quite often on another. I am fixing and will fix any CMEs as they are reported or noticed during development. Please post the entire stack trace from the console when leaving a bug report about a CME.

Performance

I run on a reasonably fast machine, so slower machines may experience noticeable 'hiccups' during the simulation. I run performance profiles and whittle away at bottlenecks, but there's only so much I can do. If your simulation is running unbearably slow, make sure you have no other appications running. Also, the few animals their are, the faster the simulation will run.
